Adoption: Are Christians wearing rose-colored glasses?

I recently read a post by a fellow adoptive mom that I found interesting. Some things were familiar to me, some made me thankful for the progress we've made, some made me hurt for the children whose scars are so deep.

I though some of you might like to read it as well. Check it out HERE.

Adoption is a wonderful thing, but it is not all roses. Thankfully, the resources, support, and reality checks available to adoptive families are increasing. And thankfully, more people are beginning to realize that adoption is not the only way to care for orphans.

I read something else last week about orphan care. Dr. Russell Moore wrote a great piece on his website, talking about the fear that comes with the thought of orphan care. Are you afraid of the idea of an orphan? You can read his piece HERE on orphan care, the Good Samaritan, and loving your neighbor.

I love this video, put together by a family that adopted their 3 boys just weeks after we brought William home.

How will YOU care for orphans?

Adoption News!! And a Raffle!!

We have news about our adoption that I would like to share! But as promised, all adoption-related news on our blog will be about Vera until we reach our goal of $1,200.

So here's the solution - let's get to the $1200 goal early! Once the goal is reached, I will post our adoption news.

So if everyone reading this will make a small tax-deductible donation to Vera's account, we can quickly raise the last $330 and I can share our news with all of you. Just think - if 33 people gave $10, that would be enough to reach our goal!

And as an added bonus...

Every $5.00 you donate = One Raffle Entry

We want to pass along our copy of the book Adopted for Life (awesome book!) to another family, and I've decided this is the way to do it. The winner of the raffle will receive the book and a Starbucks gift card... because a good book in one hand only gets better with a nice cup of coffee in the other hand!

This raffle might not sound as exciting as those who have given away an iPod, or a wii, or a digital camera. But to me, the content of this book is worth far more than any of those items!
If you've previously made donations , your donations also earn entries into the raffle.

A compelling quote

"Adoption is not just about couples who want children - or who want more children. Adoption is about an entire culture within our churches, a culture that sees adoption as part of our Great Commission mandate and as a sign of the gospel itself"
Adopted for Life (The Priority of Adoption for Christian Families & Churches)

Adopted for Life

Sometimes when I read a book, I keep a highlighter close by so I can mark my favorite quotes. Well, I just started a new book and as I went through the first chapter, I had to put the highlighter away for fear of marking up every word on every page...

At the advice of my blog friend Marcie, I purchased Adopted for Life: The Priority of Adoption for Christian Families & Churches. I haven’t gotten very far into the book yet, but I’m already hooked.

If you’re looking for a good read, and are ready to be challenged on our responsibilities as Christians in relation to the topic of adoption, I highly recommend that you go out and get this book!
