The Legend of the Yashik

As you might recall from an earlier post, we saw a hedgehog while in Kyiv. We learned that the name for this animal in Russian is yashik (that's the best I can do, I'm sure I totally butcher it when I say it!).

It's funny how you'll learn a new word, and then very soon afterwards, you hear it being used. One day we were visiting Elvis and William had his hair spiked in a fauxhawk (he calls it dinosaur hair). Elvis kept smiling at it and finally pointed and said that William's hair looked like a yashik! We all had a good laugh. Now anytime William puts gel in his hair, Elvis talks about the yashik.

Before we left for Ukraine, Zack decided to start letting his hair grow out. While his hair was longer than mine when we started dating, he's worn it pretty short for most of our married life. Well, it's starting to get pretty long, and it gave us all another good laugh yesterday when he woke up from napping on the sofa and had his own yashik 'do!

You will have to give ELvis a Yashik hair style when you get hime in your custody!! It looks so cute on WIlliam. Our translator from our adoption trip just got a visa to come and visit us along with her 13 yr. old brother, they should be arriving here in about 2 weeks. We are so excited to see them!
