On our first morning in the Big Apple, we decided to brave the Subway.
We let the boys sleep in a little, and then decided to see a pop culture site that topped our list...
Monk's Coffee Shop from Seinfeld - aka Tom's Restaurant
We were honestly a little scared. We've always heard that New Yorkers are rude and will get upset with you if you're not ready to order and stuff like that.
Man, were we misled! Our waitress was wonderful, and a perfect example of the kind & thoughtful people that New York would show us throughout our stay...
After the coffee shop, we visited the Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine (www.stjohndivine.org). I can't find any of the pictures on this computer - they must be on the other computer. It was beautiful!
Then we decided to take the subway to the Bronx, to see Yankee stadium.
After that, we wen to Brighton Beach and met our new friend Pastor Slava. We had lunch at a great Russian/Ukrainian restaurant (delicious vareniki & borscht!). Then we went to the boardwalk. While I entertained the boys (their shoes were filled with sand from the beach that night!), Zack & Pastor Slava met with people and shared the gospel message. Praying for those that they met, that they might come to a saving faith in Jesus Christ!
Then we went back to the hotel for a while. Then we explored some more of the city. The boys were anxious to see Toys r Us at Times Square, so that was our first stop. It was massive & quite impressive. It even has a full size ferris wheel in it - wow!
We got a cute picture at Times Square, thanks to a friendly Aussie!
We also went to Macy's, as well as a few other stops. A great first full day in the city!
